People might assume that the 'StormTech Gold' colour is a marketing quirk or an arbitrary design choice of little relevance to performance. Not so. 'StormTech Gold' is specifically chosen to improve performance. Dark colours absorb radiated heat. Lighter colours, including 'StormTech Gold', tend to reflect this heat, thus reducing the increase in temperature, meaning that the stiffness of the material and other properties remain within design limits and that the structural integrity of the chambers is preserved. The bright colour also makes inspection easier as it provides a light background to help see inside the chamber.

These are essential properties to ensure that a reliable product consistent to the original design will provide structural integrity over a long service life. Other forms of manufacturing, for example vacuum forming, use lower cost production methods, but do not provide such consistent product quality. The efficacy of StormTech's manufacturing process is shown by the fact that the system is both BBA approved and compliant with ASTM F2787, F2418 and F2922.
