Google June 2 Update 2021. What you need to know.

Internet by Hannah0 comments

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a key player in getting your website to the top of Google’s search lists. SEO is essentially the process of finding and using the correct keywords within your website’s content, linking to the same phrases that users will search into google. The better the keywords and phrases match the higher your site will rank in the search results.

What is the Google Update?

In June, the update to Google’s core algorithm update came out. With another being carried out in July 2021, a month later. Larger than the likes of December 2020, many SEO analysts and companies were worried or cautious of the impacts of the update, be it positive or negative for them.

Google has updates to change and improve the way data is read, used, and explored, including the processes that decide where a website should be displayed in the search results … [Read More]

Pros & Cons: WordPress vs Custom Built CMS

Internet by Jake0 comments

Developing a website takes planning and decision making, one of the decisions you will need to make is whether to use a ready-built platform or develop it from scratch. Over the years there has always been a debate between which way is better, so in this article we run through some of the Pros and Cons of WordPress vs Custom Built CMS.

WordPress Overview

WordPress is a free website development tool, originally designed as a blogging platform, over the years it has become more complex and evolved into the full featured website content management system (CMS) it’s known as today.

It’s been developed in such a way, that most people who have basic web knowledge can create a website using WordPress, without having to contact an agency or web developer. Currently WordPress equates for over 15% of websites developed.

Why should I switch my website to HTTPS?

Internet by Peter0 comments

Most people we speak to don’t know the potential benefits of switching their website to https, so here’s how it can help you.

Firstly, What is it?

I’m going to try and keep this relatively low tech – HTTPS webpages typically uses SSL to encrypt communications which involves two ‘keys’ to encrypt communications, a ‘public’ key and a ‘private’ key. Anything encrypted with the public key can only be decrypted by the private key and vice-versa. So if you think of it as a safe, if only you and the person you are sending to the safe to know the combination no one else and look inside. If you send the safe with the door open, there is potential for anyone to see what’s inside.

How do I know if a website is secure?

It will typically be shown by your browser – when a trusted SSL Digital Certificate is … [Read More]

Content is king, are you falling short?

Internet by Gemma0 comments

Many people say that content is now king in the SEO world. Surely though content has always been the most important thing if we think about the user.

Now that search engines have advanced far past the days when all that mattered was meta data, looking at your website from the users point of view could pay dividends.

Lets look at the main points as to why content is so important:

1. People will understand your message

Quality content, which explains well what you do will help people understand your products or services. Yes it is true that search engines too will need you to spoon-feed them what it is you do but if you were previously falling short you were failing your customers. Writing quality content which engages users is much more likely to convert visitors into customers. After all, could you really sell that product in 20 words … [Read More]

Thinking about a WordPress site? Consider these first.

Internet by Kat Jones0 comments

WordPress is fast becoming one of the biggest platforms that individuals and companies are using to create their websites. Unfortunately there are some downsides to this versatile platform, which may cause you problems later on down the line.

Primarily it is a blog platform, and when used for that it can be great. Our own blog uses WordPress, however it is not a CMS (Content Management System), therefore there are restrictions on what can be modified. Many fail to get the hosting and security done properly, which can hinder the sites performance and how well it can be found.

There are functionality limits. WordPress is not scalable. Given that it is a blog at its core, it is not meant to be your ultimate company website that helps you streamline your day to day operations. The plugins that are available to you will limit what you can do to your … [Read More]
